Apple Announces iPhone 13 And iPhone 13 mini

Apple has officially announced the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini at its California Streaming event. The new iPhones will be replacing last year’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini and come with new specs, better cameras, smaller notch and improved display.

Both iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are packed with new features that includes a powerful new A15 Bionic chip that offers faster performance and power efficiency.

The devices come with a new dual-camera system with a wide and ultra-wide angle lenses. This year Apple has added bigger pixels and sensor-shift optical image stabilization (OIS) to iPhone 13 and 13 mini. The Sensor-Shift OIS technology, which was limited to iPhone 12 Pro Max last year is now available on both budget models.

The new camera system is able to gather 47 percent more light, whcih results in less noise and brighter shots. New Photographic Styles and a Cinematic mode have been introduced in these new devices that improve iPhone’s video storytelling.

The Cinematic mode is able to offer depth effect with automatic focus changes, allowing users to capture cinema-style videos. Users are able to edit depth-of-field in videos after recording, making iPhone the only device to do so.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are equipped with Super Retina XDR displays measuring at 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch, which are 28 percent brighter and offer max outdoor brightness at 800 nites and 1200nits brightness when watching HDR content. The notch has been made 20 percent smaller on the new devices, giving users more screen real estate compared to previous iPhones.

Apple claims iPhone 13 will offer a 2.5 hours jump in battery life over iPhone 12 while iPhone 13 mini will offer 1.5 hours jump over iPhone 12 mini. This is thanks to the new and more power efficient A15 Bionic chip, a larger battery and power optimizations in both hardware and software.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini come in 5 color options including Blue, Pink, Starlight, Midnight and Product (RED). The devices comes with a base storage of 128GB (up from 64GB), 256GB and 512GB. iPhone 13 starts at $799 whereas iPhone 13 mini starts at $699.

Apple will begin taking pre-orders for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini on September 17 and orders start shipping on Friday, September 24. (Apple)
