Cydia sources are now stored in iPhone or iPad’s iTunes backup

Saurik has made some major changes to Cydia that not only improve its performance but also focus on making the life of its users easier. A feature many jailbreak users have been requesting for years is the ability to conveniently backup their sources and tweaks. There have been third-party solutions that allow users to do this very thing but they are not that convenient to use. Now it seems like things are going to change as one new feature that was added in Cydia 1.1.19 update allows Cydia to store user’s current sources or repos in an iTunes backup.

How this works is simple, when you have a jailbroken device that has many sources added to it, you can connect it to iTunes and create a normal backup. Then when you restore the device, jailbreak it and put your backup back on it, Cydia will automatically have all your sources added without requiring you to do anything.

While this is a great feature it is limited to Cydia sources only. We hope one day we will be able to backup our tweaks and jailbreak apps in a similar manner and restore them from a backup, whenever we have to update to a newer version of iOS.
