Apple has just released iOS 14.8 and iPadOS 14.8 software updates and they are now available for download on compatible devices.
The update comes almost a week before Apple is expected to release iOS 15 to public.
iOS 14.8 can be downloaded over-the-air, through iTunes or Finders and using direct iOS 14.8 IPSW download links given below.
iOS 14.8 has a build number of 18H17. It comes as a surprise release since Apple has not beta tested iOS 14.8 with developers, something it usually does before releasing a software update to public.
Apple says iOS 14.8 brings important security updates and is recommended to all users.
According to Apple it has closed a vulnerability in its software platforms that “may have bene actively exploited in the wild”. This includes the CoreGraphics vulnerability, which as reported by The Citizen Lab defeated Apple’s Blastdoor protections. This particular vulnerability was used to target Bahraini activists, whose iPhones were hacked using NSO Group’s Pegasus Spyware.
Apple has also released macOS 11.6 and watchOS 7.6.2 and they are also available for download on their respective devices.
