Apple has announced the new iPad mini with new all screen design, A15 Bionic chip, 12-Megapixel front camera with Center Stage, Apple Pencil 2, USB-C and more.

One of the biggest surprises of the Apple Event was the announcement of iPad mini. Apple did a good job at keeping the iPad mini under wraps until the last moment.

The release of iPad mini fulfils the wishes of many Apple fans who adore the smaller form factor of this tablet. Since Apple had not refreshed the iPad mini’s design for a while now many were beginning to wonder whether the company plans to kill the mini tablet, but thankfully it delivered a smaller tablet with no compromises.

iPad mini is powered by the A15 Bionic chip, which is the same chip that powers the new iPhone 13 lineup. The chip has a 6-core CPU that delivers 40 percent faster CPU performance and 2x faster machine learning according to Apple. It has 5-core GPU that offers up to 80 percent faster graphics.

Design of the iPad mini

The new iPad mini features a completely new design compared to its previous generation. In fact it looks like a smaller version of the iPad Air, which looks and feels the same but in a bigger footprint. iPad mini features an all screen design with rounded edges, which means the Home button is no longer there.

Apple has moved the Touch ID into the power button located on top right corner of the iPad. Users can touch their finger on the button in order to unlock their device or authenticate with Touch ID.

The screen is also limited to 60Hz like the iPad Air and lacks ProMotion technology found on iPad Pros.

Front and rear cameras

On the front iPad mini gets a 12-megapixel ultra wide camera, which offers Center Stage feature. With Center Stage users are able to make better video calls as the camera can follow them around and pans to keep the user in the frame. It can also expand the view or zoom in as others join the call.

On the back iPad mini features a wide camera that is also 12-megapixel. It features focus pixels and large aperture. The new ISP on the A15 Bionic chip also allows users to capture in Smart HDR 3. The camera is aided by a True Tone Flash on the back.
